Accuracy & the data
How can you possibly know prices in my specific area?+
We benchmark every line item against real, normalised prices mapped to your postcode, then your region and state. We start local and only widen the comparison if there isn't enough nearby data — and when we do, we tell you. We don't use a single national average, because a fair price in regional Tasmania isn't a fair price in inner Sydney.
Isn't this just a generic AI guess?+
No. The AI's job is to read your quote and convert each line into a comparable unit rate (e.g. $/m²). The verdict itself comes from comparing that rate to actual observations in our database. Every benchmark shows the sample size behind it, and we never assert a 'cheap/fair/expensive' verdict on thin data — we mark it 'limited data' instead.
Your database is new — is it big enough to trust?+
It grows every day: every paid review and every post-job survey adds real prices. Where local coverage is still light, we're upfront and lean on the parts that protect you regardless of sample size — the quote-quality review and the 'questions to ask before you sign' checklist. You always see exactly how confident we are.
My quote is one lump sum with no breakdown — can you still help?+
Yes. When a line is missing the quantity we need (e.g. '$8,400 to build a deck' with no m²), we ask you a couple of quick, specific questions instead of guessing. If you genuinely don't know, we flag that line as 'not comparable' and still review the quote's quality, scope and contract risks.
Independence & trust
Are you affiliated with contractors or taking kickbacks?+
No. VeryFi is paid for by you, the consumer, and takes no referral fees from any contractor. That's deliberate — it's the only way the verdict can be genuinely unbiased.
Is this a formal valuation or legal advice?+
No. VeryFi is general guidance to help you make a more informed decision. It isn't a formal valuation, a quantity-surveyor's assessment, or legal/financial advice. For high-stakes contracts, use our report to ask better questions and seek professional advice where needed.
Why wouldn't I just get three quotes myself?+
You still should — and our report makes those quotes comparable. Three quotes with different scopes, inclusions and 'allowances' are hard to compare apples-to-apples. We normalise them to unit rates and flag the contract risks each one carries. It's faster and cheaper than chasing extra tradies, and it catches the dodgy-contract issues that comparing prices alone won't.
Using VeryFi
What kinds of work can I check?+
Most common residential trade and construction jobs: decks and pergolas, solar and battery installs, home extensions, bathroom and kitchen renovations, fencing and retaining walls, driveways and concreting, roofing and guttering, painting, landscaping, tiling and waterproofing, and more. If your job is unusual, we'll still review quality and flag where price data is limited.
What do I need to upload?+
Just a written quote as a PDF, plus a few details (work type, postcode, property type). You don't need a signed contract — a quote is enough.
How long does it take?+
Usually a few minutes. Processing runs in the background, so you can close the tab — we'll email your report (and a PDF) when it's ready. If we need a quick clarification, we'll prompt you first.
Can VeryFi negotiate with my builder for me?+
We don't speak to your contractor — we arm you. The report gives you the specific numbers and the exact questions to raise, so you can negotiate or seek clarifications with confidence.
Privacy & money
Is my quote kept private?+
Yes. Uploaded quotes and reports are stored in a private, access-controlled store with row-level security, so only you can access yours. We never share your quote with contractors. Only de-identified, aggregated rate data feeds the benchmark — never your identity or the contractor's. See our Privacy Policy.
What if the report says my quote is fair — did I waste my money?+
No — that's a result worth having. You get the confidence to proceed without second-guessing, plus the quality review and the checklist of conditions to lock in before signing. Knowing you're not overpaying, on a five-figure job, is the point.
What does it cost, and can I get a refund?+
From $29 for a single review, with cheaper credit packs if you're comparing a few quotes — all in AUD with a tax invoice. If a review can't be completed for technical reasons (e.g. an unreadable file), the credit is automatically returned to your account. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law aren't excluded.
